Global Mental Health researcher with a focus on loneliness and aging
Dr. Samia Akhter-Khan is head of the research group Climate, Aging & Relationships (CARE lab) at the Brandenburg Medical School. Her main research interests are in the areas of global mental health and healthy aging. During her PhD in Global Mental Health at King's College London, she investigated older adults’ loneliness in Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, and tested participatory interventions for reducing loneliness by valuing care. In her own lab, she is expanding this work to the context of climate change. Since 2019, she has been part of Revaluing Care in the Global Economy and joined the advisory board in 2023.
