Sociologist with a focus on medical innovation
Tenured researcher at the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), I work at the intersection of Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the socio-anthropology of health and illness. I critically and empirically examine technoscientific innovations in biomedicine, with a specific focus on genetics, reproductive technologies, personalized and preventative medicine, and public health. My work explores the complex relationships between knowledge and power, investigating how genetic information shapes, and is shaped by, the practices and understandings of health and wellness within clinical settings and broader society. Recently, I've co-edited a book "Mundane Genomics: DNA after the Hype" with V. Argudo-Portal, V. Pavone and A. Wahlberg and a special issue of SSM - Qualitative Research in Health on "Mapping Genomic Screening between Public Health and Personalized Medicine" with C. Bourgain, V. Pavone and A. Wahlberg.
