Urban sociologist examining inequality, violence, and affective ecologies around the world.

Cristina Cielo is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies at FLACSO-Ecuador. She studies the subjective and political dimensions of economic inequalities resulting from the violence inherent in contemporary forms of property and authority. She has explored these themes through urban research and teaching in Ecuador, Bolivia, the Philippines, California, and South Africa. Through collaborative and comparative methodologies, she seeks to contribute to the relational analysis of our multiscalar affiliations within the global economy, within national territories, and in our shared and vital forms of care. Currently, she is researching the affective ecologies of diverse economies in Ecuador and the political possibilities of those who sustain them. Additionally, she seeks to understand the formation of knowledge and translocal linkages between regions of the Global South, within the framework of national higher education and development policies.
