Joan Williams of the Hastings College of the Law at the University of California has some very specific advice for lawyers considering the kind of career “pause” described in Claire Cain Miller’s recent New York Times article.
In “Don’t Leave When You Leave” over at Huffington Post, Joan describes five new companies that offer legal firms “accordion” services–curated access to lawyers who want to work part-time or put in a few hours from home every week.
Apparently men as well as women are taking advantage of this opportunity and–at least in the instances Joan describes–there’s not a big pay penalty. Interesting evidence of possible new business models…. I wonder if this is emerging in any other highly paid professions.
